Bloodlust and self-damage
Heroes that get stronger each time they lose health, and what keeps them alive.
Bloodlust gives a hero +1 power each time it loses health, with no limit. In a long fight, a hero that keeps getting hit keeps getting stronger, as long as it survives.
Heroes with Bloodlust
| Hero | When it gets Bloodlust | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Berserker | Level 1 | Second Wind heals it, and Frenzy adds an extra attack at level 3 |
| Blood Witch | Level 1 | Drain Life heals it by its power, so each power gain improves its healing |
| Wildheart | Level 2 | Lots of health to spend, plus Second Wind and Shapeshift |
| Skullsplitter | Level 2 | High power, but little health to spend |
| Pyromancer | Level 2 | Powers up its Bolts, though it is fragile |
Best champion
Sable is built for this. Blood Rite gives every ally +1 power and costs them 2 health, and that health loss sets off Bloodlust. So a Bloodlust hero starts each battle with an extra point of power.
How to use it
Self-healing is the key partner. Second Wind and Drain Life scale with power, so each hit taken also raises the healing that follows it. A Bloodlust hero with one of these abilities can become very hard to kill.
Keep them away from armor buffs. Hits stopped by armor don’t trigger Bloodlust. Giving armor to these heroes means less power, so spend Altar armor elsewhere.
Status damage helps too. Health lost to any source counts, so even a poison tick adds power. A hero with enough health can turn enemy Hexes into extra damage.
Curses can help. The Frail curse makes a hero lose 2 health at the start of battle. On a Bloodlust hero with plenty of health, that loss adds power.
The risk is that low-health heroes die before the power gains amount to anything. Skullsplitter and Pyromancer need protection in the middle or back of the lineup, while Wildheart and Berserker can take hits closer to the front.
